Career Opportunities
The profile of GEn engineers is very varied, which can be explained by a broad field of expertise in the energy and environmental sectors, but also by a diversity of sensitivities specific to each student.
While more than 80% of new graduates start work immediately after graduation, others want to acquire additional skills :
- Some of them continue their scientific training at doctoral level, contributing to the development of new knowledge about fundamental subjects : around 10% of GEn engineers do a doctoral thesis, either in France or abroad ;
- Others complete their training with a specialized master’s degree from business schools (HEC, ESSEC, EM, etc.) in management, finance, marketing, etc. or with a short course targeting a particular energy or environmental sector (nuclear, oil, gas, wood, environmental management, etc.).
The majority of GEn engineers work in the energy production and distribution (25%), building energy (21%), energy consulting (15%) and processes and environment (21%) sectors. 18% of graduates work in other sectors such as higher education, IT, insurance, banking, food processing, etc.
GEn engineers work in a balanced way in large groups ans SMEs but also in local authorities, government departments and agencies (ADEME, DREAL, etc.), universities and research centers (CEA, CNRS, CSTB, INSA, etc), and in the voluntary or humanitarian sector (HESPUL, RONGEAD, Negawatt, etc.)
His functions within the company are varied (design office, research and development, operations, production, business engineer, sales, training, project manager, etc.), with a significant technical component, especially at the beginning of his carrier.
